This is my final outcome for the Editorial Design module, where I designed and produced a typographic book using the text Undersea by Rachel L. Carson. The brief focused on creating a publication using primarily typography and a limited colour palette to visually communicate the atmosphere and themes of the text.
Throughout the project, I explored experimental layout design and typographic composition to reflect the movement and depth of the sea. I used layering, repetition, and varying opacities to create rhythm and texture across the pages, allowing the visuals to connect closely with the narrative. The flowing compositions and abstract patterns were inspired by waves and underwater forms, helping to create continuity throughout the book.
I also considered the physical structure of the publication carefully, using the layout to guide the reader through the content in an immersive and visually engaging way. This project strengthened my understanding of editorial hierarchy, pacing, and grid systems while encouraging a more conceptual and expressive approach to book design.
